Nostalgia ain’t what it used to be, so goes the saying. Object lesson: Volkswagen’s decision to retire its New Beetle after 20 years on the market. It’s a bit of a shame, but reality bites. Motor Trend loved the New Beetle, naming it our 1999 Import Car of the Year upon its launch. After the
Mercedes-AMG has dropped the “Project One” moniker for its new hypercar as it inches closer to production. A year after the prototype debuted to the public, the model will be known as “ONE” from now on. Mercedes says the name befits its new top-of-the-line vehicle—as in “the One.” “The name stands for the highest automotive
While the Accord battles the Camry for sales supremacy, the Altima now offers something its Toyota and Honda rivals don’t at any price—all-wheel drive. That distinguishing option is far from the only change Nissan made to the new 2019 Altima, which boasts a V-6-replacing turbo-four and an interior that will make last-gen Altima owners jealous.
Chevrolet will introduce four concept Silverado trucks next month at the SEMA Show in Las Vegas. The vehicles show how customers can accessorize the Silverado with parts backed by Chevrolet or other companies. Android Auto is still not offered, but owners of Amazon Alexa-enabled Android phones can take advantage of the service’s car-to-home and home-to-car verbal commands (iPhone compatibility is scheduled for late 2018).
Traditionally, Mercedes-Benz’s attempts at building entry-luxury cars have been middling at best. The CLA, its most recent indiscretion, came with a frustrating dual-clutch transmission and a plasticky interior. But Mercedes’ suboptimal reputation might soon change with its A-Class sedan. Intended to be Mercedes’ newest bargain-basement model and slotting beneath the CLA, the A-Class sedan is
Weight is down, by a significant amount. McLaren claims 100 kilograms even, meaning the 600LT should be 220 pounds lighter than the 570S. The splitter, sills, diffuser, and rear wing are all made from carbon fiber and coincidentally produce that same 220 pounds of downforce at 155 mph. The aluminum control arms—snatched from the 720S—help
For the past few years, autonomous electric concepts have been all the rage on the international auto show circuit. These forward-looking vehicles tend to have boxy or egg-shaped designs in order to maximize interior volume. But every once in a while, an automaker introduces an autonomous concept that prioritizes style over practicality. The Peugeot E-Legend
The current-generation Mazda CX-5 is destined for some big updates after debuting for the 2017 model year. When Motor Trend started Best Driver’s Car back in 2007 (when it was known briefly as “Best Handling Car”), only one car in the field offered more than 500 horsepower—the 505-hp Chevrolet Corvette Z06, which we characterized as a “fire breather.” Lord only knows what our 2007 staff would have made of an SUV showing
What an amazing week this has been. Absolutely epic. I’m proud to say it is by far the most ambitious Best Driver’s Car program—and Best Driver’s Car Week—we’ve ever attempted. We really poured our hearts into this one and pulled together the most ridiculous set of supercars and superstars—from our test drivers and editors to

We’ve long known that Jeep will have a pickup based on the current generation JL Wrangler. For a few years now, we’ve also heard rumblings of a Ram midsize pickup. Now, suppliers have confirmed to Automotive News that Ram will build its own midsize truck, and it will be body-on frame. The suppliers revealed that Ram’s midsize pickup
We’re quite fond of the Ram Power Wagon, our new long-term vehicle and the winner of our recent off-road truck comparison. Now, the model receives a Mojave Sand package that doesn’t make it more or less capable, but adds a few cosmetic touches. The package includes a new beige paint job and all-black wheels. Other
